In vitro proliferation assays are classic methods for assessing cell viability and function and can be used to determine whether cells are triggered to divide after exposure to a specific stimulus, or to assess differences in the ability of cell populations to divide in response to the same stimulus. Proliferation assays provide information on the proliferation of entire cell populations rather than individual cells and have the advantage of being relatively fast and inexpensive.
