T Cell Migration and Immune Clearance

T lymphocytes are one of the most "exploring" immune cells, capable of migrating throughout the body and exploring most tissues. In addition to colonizing profusely, T lymphocytes continuously scan their local environment in a manner that helps recognize specific antigens on the surface of APCs. Thus, motility is an inherent property of T lymphocytes that ensures optimal local activity at the site of antigen attack and timely recognition of foreign antigens. Recognition of cognate antigens by TCRs alters the dynamic behavior of T lymphocytes and halts migration, implying that T lymphocyte motility is influenced by other factors in the microenvironment.
