Major histocompatibility complexes (MHCs) are a family of genes responsible for many key functions of the immune system of most vertebrates. MHC consists of three classes that are distinguished according to their structure and function. Purified MHC molecules can be used to study their interactions with transmembrane chaperones and helper proteins residing in the endoplasmic reticulum to better understand class I antigen presentation pathways.
MHC monomers can be used in interactions with peptide complexes with ligands such as monoclonal antibodies, recombinant T cell receptors or other binding scaffolds, for example for screening new antigen-specific CAR T cell antigen receptors.
